Our Wedding

The second chapter of our love story began like many modern day love stories do - on a dating app. But we weren't complete strangers when the algorithm gods brought us together early in 2020. Narrator: Their circles had overlapped for years through mutual friends, little coincidences, and near-miss encounters even living on the same street for years. Point is, this was a modern day romance with a two ships passing in the night sort of twist. What followed was a flurry of exciting dates and a pretty immediate realization that this could go the distance. We have since enjoyed countless memorable adventures near and far and are making our first house a home together in Seattle. We got engaged during a hut-to-hut trek in the Dolomites. On one particular day of the trek, instead of a 23-mile push that ended in profound soreness, we enjoyed a mini-bottle of champagne in a mountain hut in the Italian Alps, before falling asleep in a bunk room shared with thirty other adventurers. This journey of ours has been magical, and we can't wait to see whats in store for us after we mark this milestone with all our people.

What is the dress code?

Summer formal attire. Please keep in mind that, weather permitting, the ceremony and cocktail hour will be held outside. Additionally, there are grassy, unpaved areas so be mindful in your shoe selection. Bolo ties are also highly encouraged! Additionally, be sure to pack your swimsuit since we will have access to the Captain Whidbey dock the entire weekend

How do I get to Whidbey Island?

To get to Whidbey Island, you can take the ferry or drive over Deception Pass. If you opt to take the ferry (we would 100% suggest it, great views, and shorter travel time), please check the ferry schedule ahead of time. You will take the ferry from the Mukilteo Terminal which is an hour away from SeaTac Airport. 1. Drive only. This involves taking I-5 to Mount Vernon and driving onto the island. This generally takes between 2 and 3 hours coming from Seattle. This is a good option if you have extra time! You can stop and see Deception Pass State Park and more!&nbsp; 2. Drive and Take the Ferry- Drive to Mukilteo and drive, bike, or walk onto the ferry. The ferry leaves every 30 minutes and takes around 20 minutes across the harbor. The ferry is absolutely gorgeous. Since the wedding will be in summer, if you are lucky you may even see some Orcas! Whidbey Island is known for them that time of year. The ferry drops you off in Clinton, where it will then be about a forty minute drive to the venue!&nbsp; 3. Our venue accommodates sea planes! Please contact their <a href="https://kenmoreair.com/charter-flights/?_ga-ft=aAaBiA.AA.AA.AA.AA.6Q5AZ1ytRK6GGGwvpglgVw..0.39416." rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">charter department</a> to organize direct seaplane flights from Seattle to Captain Whidbey. Travel Note for guests flying into Washington: If you are coming to Whidbey Island straight from the airport, there is a Sea-Tac to Whidbey Island shuttle! It is about $85 roundtrip, and does include the ferry fare. Follow <a href="https://www.seatacshuttle.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">this link</a> for schedules and reservations.

How does the ferry work?

The ferry from Mukileto to Clinton runs very regularly in the summer. It runs every half an hour starting at 5am through midnight/1am the next day. So, you can leave the island after the wedding is over if you would prefer to not stay on the island that night. However, in the summer, lines for the ferry can get quite long, so plan accordingly. We suggest taking the ferry one slot earlier than you think. For example, if you plan on taking the 2:30 ferry, try to get there for the 2:00 one. Normally, it is $21 for the vehicle + driver, and $6 per adult (19 and up) round trip. Where can I stay on the island?

For those not staying at the venue, the town of Coupeville is just 7 minutes down the road and has several small inns in a range of prices. Some good options we've found nearby are <a href="https://www.thecoupevilleinn.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Coupeville Inn</a> and the <a href="https://anchorage-inn.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Anchorage Inn Bed and Breakfast</a>, which are both about a ten minute drive to the venue. Can I be at Captain Whidbey outside the events?

Of course! We chose this venue largely with the hope of having a fun summer camp like weekend with our loved ones. We'd be thrilled if our guests spent time at the lagoon or on the back deck of the historic cabin. There is a dock for swimming, whale watching, launching kayaks, or just sitting and reading. It's a serene place that we want everyone to enjoy!

When should I plan to leave on Sunday?

Everyone is welcome to swing by our farewell brunch for some fuel for the road, but we understand if you need to get an early start. If you are staying for brunch, we would recommend not booking flights any earlier than mid afternoon. The ferry line can sometimes get busy on Sundays, but driving north through Deception Pass is a great backup plan to avoid the ferry.

Beloved family and friends! We are so grateful to have the most supportive community from coast to coast and for you to take the time to celebrate with us. For those flying into Washington, we recommend flying into Paine Field (PAE) or Bellingham Airport (BLI) if flights allow. PAE is located just 10 minutes away from the Mukilteo ferry, and BLI allows folks to avoid a ferry ride all together with a vehicle. Both are roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes from the venue. Alternatively, you can fly into Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SeaTac), which will just be a slightly longer route based on whether you choose to take ferry or drive around. SeaTac is located approximately an hour and a half drive from the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry terminal. If you plan to take the Mukilteo -Clinton Ferry you can use the <a href="https://wsdot.com/ferries/schedule/scheduledetailbyroute.aspx?route=muk-cl" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">following link</a> to access the ferry sail times, or download the WSDOT app on your phone. Kayaks & Paddleboards

On Saturday morning, we'll have complimentary kayaks and paddleboards available from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM for anyone who would like to get out on the water before the festivities begin. A sign-up sheet will be available at the welcome drinks on Friday evening to help organize launch times.

Swimming at the Captain Whidbey Dock

All throughout the weekend we will have access to the Captain Whidbey dock and waterfront, so please bring your favorite aquatic accessories to enjoy the water in whatever way you like. Additionally, the night before the wedding we will be gathering for a pre-wedding plunge. All are welcome to jump in or simply come cheer everyone on.

Outdoor Activites

We love getting outside, whether it’s hiking, trail running, or biking. Two of our favorite trails on or just off the island are Ebey’s Landing and Mt. Erie. You’ll also find some incredible meandering trails in Deception Pass State Park. And if a beach walk is more your speed, you’ll have no shortage of options.

Around the island

Coupeville and Langley are sweet quintessential PNW beach towns with shops, restaurants and chances at whale watching. Be sure to walk the pier in Coupeville, get coffees on the pier and some pastries at Little Red Hen Bakery, and patter around the sweet storybook town (also where Practical Magic was filmed so should do so while listening to This Kiss by Faith Hill!) There are a handful of great wineries, breweries, shops, and restaurants on the island. Greenbank Pantry &amp; Deli and Greenbank Farm in Greenbank are worth the stop for some of the best pies and sandwiches on your way to the venue. The Braeburn restaurant in Langley has some great sandwiches, and the best fried chicken sandwich this side of the Cascades. Grayhorse Mercantile also has some of the cutest knick-knacks and homeware you'll find on the island. Our favorite breakfast spot is Flower House Cafe, and be sure to peruse Bayview Farm and Garden after. Fort Casey and Fort Ebey are old military forts with lots of interesting sights and history to explore, according to Ben at least.
